Winter Outages and Emergency Preparedness
No matter how well maintained and reliable our electric service normally is, harsh winter weather conditions can cause outages. We can expect outages from a variety of reasons - heavy snow that causes trees to fall into power lines, ice forming on lines and vehicles skidding into power poles. Even though our crews work hard to restore power as quickly as possible, outages are much easier to live with if you're prepared. Here are some tips to follow when an outage occurs:
- Check to see if your neighbors have electricity. If they do, check your service panel or breaker box to rule out problems with electricity inside your home.
- Call Okanogan County PUD at (509) 422-3310 to report the outage.
- Don't be in the dark or keep us "in the dark". Help us help you, call us, if the power goes out or stays out for any length of time.
And, in case your power is out for any length of time, be prepared with an Emergency Preparedness Kit.
As winter approaches our thoughts turn to colder weather and the need to prepare ourselves. Winter brings with it the threat of ice, snow, and cold weather. Occasionally, the electricity goes out and the possibility exists that customers will be without power for several hours or days. Folks should be prepared for the worst. This is where an emergency preparedness kit could make a difference. A kit should contain the following items:
Other items should be considered to make the event as comfortable as possible.
