Similkameen River Appraisal Level Study
Similkameen River

In 2007, the Public Utility District No. 1 of Okanogan County received notice of a grant award from the Department of Ecology’s Columbia River Basin Water Management Program.  The grant is for an appraisal level study of the Similkameen River for a water storage, flood control, and hydroelectric facility.  To view a copy of the grant agreement, click here. In April of 2008, the PUD completed a grant contract with DOE, and hired Entrix Inc. and MWH (engineering firm) to conduct the Similkameen River Appraisal Level Study.  The study will compile existing data such as cultural resources, aquatics/fisheries, wildlife, water quality, wetlands/shorelines, recreation, land use, and engineering documents.

In December of 2007 the District also completed an agreement with the United States Army Corps of Engineers to perform a Similkameen River Basin Water Supply and Demand Study.  To view a copy of this agreement, click here. Upon completion of the Corps study, the information will be integrated into the District’s Appraisal Level Study final report.

The final report has been completed. To view the report click here.

On August 24th, 2009, a public meeting was held in Oroville, WA to discuss the results of the Similkameen River Appraisal Level Study (SRALS) recently completed for the proposed Shanker's Bend water storage project. To view the PowerPoint presentation given at the meeting, please click here.
